When You Were Her
Chicago-based singer/songwriter David Rokos is releasing his new album, “When You Were Her”, on November 18th through Rogers Park Records. His 10th overall release, and 2nd solo release, “When You Were Her” finds Rokos hitting his stride as a songwriter with 8 songs that flow effortlessly between catchy pop-punk anthems in the vein of his band Get Well Cards and the intimate acoustic stories of his first solo release, often within the same song. After the end of a nearly 10-year relationship, 28-year-old Rokos found himself going back to basics, writing songs not because he wanted to, but because he had to. Written over the course of two months in the cold Chicago winter, “When You Were Her” is an honest portrait of what it’s like to reevaluate your future as a young adult. Influenced by the Chicago punk bands of his youth like The Lawrence Arms and The Smoking Popes, as well as singer/songwriters like Ryan Adams and Elliott Smith, the album combines heart-on-your-sleeve lyrics with dynamic instrumental
