Rhythmically his music is very influenced by the polyrhythms prevalent in African music, and that combined with his extremely catchy melodies and hooks makes for a tantalizing combination of music that makes you want to sing and dance. Lyrically, the subject matter is far removed from the typical and the use of word play and easy to remember albeit thought provoking lyrics also captures the imagination and attention of the listener.

He studied at Drumtech in London and at The Musicians Institute, Hollywood, CA, received a scholarship from Berklee College of Music, Boston, and most recently received a MBA from Henley Business School in London.
He's been a member of the Johnny Clegg Band since the '90's, with a global touring schedule. Recent highlights include him performing or recording with Annie Lennox, Carlos Santana, Peter Gabriel, Robert Plant, Sipho Hotstix Mabuse, Ernest Ranglin, Brian May, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, The London Chamber Orchestra, The Soweto Gospel Choir and Oliver Mtukudzi, and now ...Ian Allen!
The amazing Josh Hawks from the multi platinum selling band Freshly Ground is on bass - making for a smoking hot rhythm section! The lead guitarist is his old friend Brad Nel - they have been best friends since they were in the army together as teenagers. He has been a long time collaborator, and they've been through it all. Ian Allen on acoustic guitar sings his songs backed by this amazing rhythm section with their tribal African rhythms, and the most inventive guitar playing by Brad, all being produced and mixed by the legendary Alan Sanderson!
