Born in Melbourne, raised in Adelaide Chris took an interest to music at a very early age. Chris was 13 when he realised that music was what he wanted to do with his life. Mucking around with the Cool Edit program, he recorded himself singing along to a Babyface track. “It was kind of karaoke,” he recalls, “but when I heard my voice, I thought, ‘This is it, music is what I’m going to do.’”\r \r Soon after, Chris started writing songs. He does everything by ear. He’s never had a singing lesson or been taught to play the piano or guitar. “If you love something enough, you’re just going to do it,” he explains. \r \r Chris’s first gig was singing the national anthem at an AFL match in front of 45,000 people in his hometown of Adelaide.\r \r After his brother Guy won the first Australian Idol, the producers approached Chris, wanting him to be on the show. But he decided to follow his own path, forging his own way in the music world. “A lot of people think it’s been easy with my last name,” Chris says, “but it hasn’t been. I need to prove myself as an artist. And, of course, I have a lot to live up to, though our music is very different.”
