Malibran
The Italian band Malibran was born in 1987, in Catania, a city in the south of Italy (more specifically, in the Sicily island, from where all its members come). At the beginning, they had a different drummer and a solo vocalist (very metal-sound oriented) that ended up, after some time, being replaced by Alessio Scaravilli (Giuseppe’s Brother) and Giuseppe himself, who decided to handle the lead vocals from now on. They were soon playing all around the sicily, presenting their great musicianship and strong stage presence. In July 27th, 1989, a Prog Festival was organized in Rome with the partecipation of 4 italian groups: Malibran, Leviathan, Edith and Notturno Concertante. After this mega-show, Riccardo Maccari and some friends decided “to do something about Malibran”. They finally produced their first album, wich appeared in 1990 on the Pegaso Records Label. After this debut, the band received well deserved praises for their seventies-oriented style and “Silenzio”, a masterpiece presented as “the best italian album since 1977” by people such as Paul Bareight (autor of “Il ritorno del pop italiano”), Malibran conquered their place among the best 3 italian bands of the 90’s (the other two, in my opinion, being Nuova Era and Finisterre). The following period shows a slowdown on the band’s activities. Even so, a “Official Bootleg” would appear in the late nineties.
